In this paper reasons are put forward to suggest that controlled mechanical ventilation with 100 per cent oxygen may provide a fruitful field of prophylactic management (Peaston 1964), since if there is such a poor prognosis once cardiac arrest is established, the clear need is to prevent its occurrence.…”
