Circulating IL‑37 levels are elevated in patients with hypertension

Abstract: has been reported to be closely linked to vascular diseases, including atherosclerosis and aortic calcification. The present study aimed to assess the expression levels of IL-37 in patients with hypertension. Blood samples were collected from control subjects (n=20) and patients with hypertension (n=45). Subsequently, macrophages, lymphocytes and dendritic cells were individually isolated and the mRNA expression of IL-37 was measured. In addition, the circulating IL-37 levels in control subjects (n=30) and pat… Show more

“…COX-2 is the principal source of intravascular reactive oxygen species creation, and, in arterial hypertension and diabetes, this seems to be the result of an interaction between COX-2-induced prostaglandins, lower activity of oxidase, RAAS, nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate, and bone morphogenic protein 4, as a concentrated pathophysiological cascade in stimulating and preserving endothelial dysfunction [155,156]. Moreover, in patients with arterial hypertension, alterations in IL-12, IL-23, IL-27, IL-35, and IL-37 concentrations are connected with the development of carotid atherosclerotic plaque [157,158]. All aforementioned cytokines are also associated with H. pylori infection [159][160][161][162].…”

“…Although the pathophysiological mechanisms of hypertension are not fully understood, strong evidences suggest that immune hyperactivation and chronic inflammatory responses play a crucial direct role in the development of hypertension [78]. Our team's previous clinical and animal studies also proved that immune microenvironment disturbances are closely related to hypertension [79][80][81][82][83]. Activated T lymphocytes and pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL17 are involved in the occurrence and development of angiotensin II (ANGII) and deoxycorticosterone acetate-salt (DOCAsalt)-induced hypertension [84][85][86][87][88][89].…”

“…The levels of IL-10 and TGF-b secreted by T cells isolated from patients were decreased in the treatment of rhIL-37 (91). Although the role of IL-37 in the animal model and clinical patients with atherosclerosis (93)(94)(95)(96), acute coronary syndrome (1,97), coronary artery calcification (98), coronary heart disease (99), chronic heart failure (100), atrial fibrillation (101), abdominal aortic aneurysm (102), hypertension (103), and other cardiovascular system diseases (91) has been identified, the timeline view of cocitation clusters revealed that the relationships between IL-37 and the cardiovascular system diseases remain the future hotspots. Cluster #0 seems to be the transfer of the second part of cluster #1 which has been undertaken in terms of research content.…”
