“…Samples were immediately placed on ice until transported to the local laboratory within 4 hr of collection and stored at minus 70°C until shipped to the PHACS repository. GCF samples were tested for candidate markers (Becerik et al, 2011;Ka et al, 2014;Kido et al, 2001;Kinney et al, 2014;Kunimatsu et al, 1993)…”

“…Regardless of HIV disease, the mouth is a known source of inflammation stemming from gingivitis and periodontitis (Ertugrul, Sahin, Dikilitas, Alpaslan, & Bozoglan, 2013;Giannobile et al, 2009;Kinney et al, 2014). Numerous inflammatory markers and markers of bone metabolism have been associated with periodontitis, often preceding clinical evidence of attachment loss (Becerik, Afacan, Ozturk, Atmaca, & Emingil, 2011;Giannobile et al, 2009;Ka et al, 2014;Kido et al, 2001;Kinney et al, 2014;Kunimatsu et al, 1993).…”

“…Two articles did not use objective standard criteria for measurement of the condition and in two articles, this information was unclear. All included articles used a valid and reliable measurement of outcome assessment and only one study did not use appropriate statistical analysis for the evaluation of the association between adipokine levels and obesity (Supplementary File 3).…”

“…Three studies determined the levels of TNF‐α in saliva and nine studies evaluated those levels in GCF . Five studies found no significant differences in GCF comparing individuals with and without obesity, whereas four studies demonstrated significantly elevated TNF‐α levels in GCF of individuals with obesity. As regards saliva, two studies showed no difference in TNF‐α concentration in the saliva of individuals with and without obesity.…”
