Claim Management-Impact Cost Calculation Methods in Project Management

Abstract

The context of engineering projects is particularly favorable to the constant appearance of engineering changes, contractual modifications, and deviations from the initial plan. These elements are potential causes for claims. In this paper, we investigate one of the critical components of the claim management process: the calculation of the impacts of changes in the duration of the contract and losses of productivity due to changes in work, delays, and acceleration. More specifically, we present a description of the methods that have been developed over the years for the quantification of impact costs. We identify the limitations of the methods and propose some promising directions for research in claim management.
