Class of cyclic-based estimators for frequency-offset estimation of OFDM systems

Abstract: In this paper, we present a new class of blind cyclic-based estimators for carrier frequency offset and symbol-timing error estimation of orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. The proposed approach exploits the properties of the cyclic prefix subset to reveal the synchronization parameters in the likelihood function of the received vector. In this paper, a new likelihood function for the joint timing and frequency-offset estimation is derived, which globally characterizes the estimation pr… Show more

“…One of the methods introduced was cyclic prefix method to compute frequency offset and symbol timing errors but it was difficult to find the start of the frame. So all the OFDM symbols begin with preamble symbols and are used in calculating the frequency offset [3]- [4]. However there is some uncertainty in determining the start of the frame.…”

“…Many techniques have been proposed for effective OFDM synchronization in the literature that include both data-aided schemes [6][7][8], and blind schemes [9], [10]. The latter schemes use inherent structure of the OFDM symbol (i.e.…”

“…Cyclic Prefix (CP) based method is used to determine frequency offset and symbol timing [4]. The drawback of this method is that it does not find the start of the frame.…”
