This study empirically examines the effect of sustainable urbanization on vulnerability to climate change over a sample of 52 African countries from 1996 to 2019. We use the two‐stage system generalized method of moments (GMM) empirical strategy and mediation analysis to assess direct and indirect impacts, respectively. The results of the direct analysis reveal that sustainable urbanization reduces vulnerability to climate change. The results of the indirect analysis also show that sustainable urbanization significantly reduces vulnerability to climate change through the channels of digitalization and institutional quality. The results also highlight that considering the direct effect of sustainable urbanization alone underestimates the impact of reducing vulnerability to climate change. The results are robust to an alternative indicator of vulnerability to climate and other estimation techniques. These results have important policy implications and provide evidence for the improvement of sustainable urbanization in terms of access to basic services or reduction of vulnerability to climate change.

Managerial skill is a crucial factor in the formation and performance of effective leaders. This capability fosters strategic alignment in organizational management, especially in adapting to market changes, which has driven new ways of managing, controlling, executing, assessing, and making decisions to achieve operational and mission-related objectives in companies. This article sought to analyze the importance of managerial skills as a key element of business competitiveness. A descriptive qualitative approach was used, drawing from freely accessible electronic documents. The results focus on three main themes: managerial skills as a competitive strategy, fundamental skills of a manager for business competitiveness, and managerial skills as a factor of competitiveness. The findings suggest that companies increasingly require management staff with knowledge, experience, and skills that allow them to achieve objectives and business success. Managerial prowess is, therefore, an essential aspect to foster competitiveness in the corporate realm.

Drawing on green growth and technology transfer theories, this paper investigates the impact of Chinese investment and trade on the Comparative Advantage in Environmental Goods (CAEG) index in Africa, utilizing a panel data set of 30 African countries over 25 years. Employing robust econometric identification strategies, our findings reveal that Chinese investment and import significantly enhance the production and consumption of environmental goods, particularly in the renewable energy sector. Notably, the positive effects are more pronounced for direct investments compared to trade. The study also demonstrates that the endowment of natural resources amplifies the beneficial impact of Chinese investment and trade on the CAEG index, while institutional quality does not show a significant differential effect. These results are validated through the Two‐step System Generalized Method of Moments to address potential endogeneity concerns. The findings underscore the critical role of foreign investment, particularly from China, in advancing sustainable development in Africa.
