Climate change Mitigation and Adaptation through Biotechnology Approaches: A review

Abstract: Climate change associated factors including temperature increases, changes in rain fall pattern and occurrence of pest and diseases negatively influence agricultural production, productivity and quality. Climate change effects particularly in region suffer persistent soil and water resource scarcity significantly increases production risk. The effects of climate change on agriculture may depend not only on changing climate condition, but also on the ability to adapt through changes in technology and demand for… Show more

“…To overcome these challenges, researchers, policy makers and farmers urgently need to consider different types of agricultural adaptation (Howden et al, 2007, Rickards and Howden, 2012). Researchers previously mentioned that the modern biotechnology and energy efficient farming are crucial for solving the problems of climate change (Tesfahun, 2018). However, to do so, it is of utmost importance to study not only the irrigation use efficiency but also the economical and dietary efficiency of the crops.…”

“…Conversely, the heterogeneity and unpredictability of global CC effects require a continuous improvement to predict and adapt to EWE. Measures to limit the stresses have been extensively studied, including resilient farming systems based on increased levels of biodiversity [16], enhancement of biotechnologies and genomic tools [17,18], selection of new varieties [19,20] and modification of the distribution of the current varieties [21]. A substantial part of the research on the effects and the risks for the plant communities related to the EWE focused on the tools and technologies for early detection or risk maps.…”

“…Climate change is one of the most critical challenges currently facing humanity and continue to be a major global problem on sustainable development [1], due to climate change associated factors including unexpected climate change/ temperature rising, can be caused either by the Earth's natural forces such as solar radiation or human activities such as release of GHGs into the atmosphere results in global warming and changes in rain fall amount and patterns [2]. Climate change has a diverse effects on agriculture productivity and quality, rendering food supply less secure in global especially in developing countries [3], while the global population is regularly to increase [4].…”
