Clinical Features and Risk Factors of Pulmonary Hypertension in Chinese Patients With Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

Abstract: Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) frequency, clinical characteristics, and laboratory features of pulmonary hypertension (PH) in a Chinese population with SLE and to evaluate the risk factors contributing in early diagnosis. Patients and methods: A total of 39 patients (2 males, 37 females; mean age 38.2±14.9 years; range, 16 to 71 years) with combined SLE and PH and 407 patients (43 males, 364 females; mean age 34.8±14.0 years; range, 7 to 73 years) with SLE but wi… Show more

“…Our ndings were consistent with previous studies. In a study involving 41 SLE patients with PAH and 106 SLE patients without PAH, serositis, Raynaud's phenomenon, anticardiolipin antibodies, and anti-U1RNP were associated with higher risk of SLE-PAH [15]. In another cross-sectional study, Raynaud's phenomenon was associated with elevated pulmonary artery systolic pressure [20].…”

“…Early diagnosis and intervention are essential to improve patient outcomes. Some clinical manifestations and immunologic test have been shown to predict PAH in SLE patients [14,15]. However, PAH is a complex condition, risk factors may have different association for certain disease characteristics.…”

“…Interestingly, positive anti-U1 ribonucleoprotein had an independent correlation with PH severity, while pericardial effusion was associated with a longer duration of PH and worse prognosis. Additional risk factors of PH development have been proposed by several other studies [ 14 , 15 , 16 , 17 , 18 ].…”
