Clinical Presentation and Risk Factors of Venous Thromboembolic Disease

Abstract: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) has a wide range of clinical presentations. Deep venous thrombosis may occur in upper or lower extremities or in visceral veins. Extremity deep venous thrombosis usually manifests with unilateral painful swelling in the limb, while visceral deep venous thrombosis manifestations vary on the basis of the involved organ. Pulmonary embolism classically manifests with sudden pleuritic chest pain and unexplained dyspnea. Superficial thrombophlebitis usually presents with acute inflammati… Show more

“…The clinical picture of venous thromboembolism depends on the site of the thrombus, and it can range from asymptomatic to severely symptomatic, but the suspicion of venous thromboembolic event is raised when the patient has an unexplained episode of dyspnea, hypoxia or unilateral leg pain, and swelling [62].…”

“…A diminuição da mobilidade é um fator favorável na tríade de Virchow e contribui de forma significativa para o aumento das taxas de morbimortalidade em gestantes. Gestantes com pré-disposição de TVP devem fazer uso de medidas profiláticas e a deambulação, sempre que possível, deve ser mantida a fim de garantir uma gestação mais segura e saudável (Albassan et al, 2017).…”

“…It is well known that hypercoagulability and slow blood flow are the basis of thrombosis. 21 With age, increasing clotting activity occurs as a result of increased coagulation factor activity. 22 The blood stasis area of the gastrocnemius muscle side valve is enlarged, blood flow is slow, and DVT forms more readily.…”
