Clinoptilolite augmented electrocoagulation process for the reduction of high‐strength ammonia and color from stabilized landfill leachate

Abstract: The high-strength leachate produced from sanitary landfill is a serious issue around the world as it poses adverse effects on aquatic life and human health. Physio-chemical technology is one of the promising options as the leachate normally presents in stabilized form and not fully amendable by biological treatment. In this research, the effectiveness of natural zeolite (clinoptilolite) augmented electrocoagulation process (hybrid system) for removing high-strength ammonia (3,442 mg/L) and color (8,427 Pt-Co) … Show more

“…Relevant scholars put forward the graphic overlay method based on geographic information system based on the specific situation of the current postevaluation of the environmental impact of municipal facilities projects and selected relevant software as the research and development platform to conduct postevaluation of the environmental impact of municipal facility projects [6]. ey have selected nine evaluation factors, such as air quality, water environment quality, acoustic environment, soil environment, ecological environment, etc., determined their weights, and used the data processing function and spatial analysis function of the geographic information system to produce the impact level map.…”

“…In order to treat landfill leachate, a number of traditional chemical and physical processes have been suggested, such as adsorption with different adsorbent (Detho et al, 2021; Elgarahy et al, 2023; Kumara & Dayanthi, 2023; J. Liu et al, 2024; Salama et al, 2022), ion exchange with various resins (Aziz et al, 2020; Bashir et al, 2010; Scandelai et al, 2020), reverse osmosis (Bouchareb et al, 2022; Folino et al, 2024; García‐Pacheco et al, 2022), electrocoagulation (Guo et al, 2022; Hamid et al, 2021; R. Li et al, 2017; Ogedey & Oguz, 2024), electrochemical oxidation (Tang et al, 2022; Vocciante et al, 2021; Zhao & Zhao, 2021), fenton processes (Crispim et al, 2022; Feng et al, 2022; X. Li et al, 2018), advanced oxidation processes (Kanmani & Dileepan, 2023, Shuo Li et al, 2022, Y. Liu et al, 2022), dissolved air flotation (Adlan et al, 2011), and coagulation/flocculation (Lessoued et al, 2017; Reddy et al, 2022; Zakaria et al, 2022).…”

“…Despite the high efficiency and reliability of the EC process, some recalcitrant pollutants remain in the leachate after EC treatment, such as organic substances and NH 3 -N [24,[32][33][34][35]. From the literature, it can be inferred that no single procedure, including EC, is effective for the treatment of leachate [5,36] due to the complexity of its composition, and therefore combined systems are essential to address environmental restrictions [8,37].…”
