Cloning and stress response analysis of the PeDREB2A and PeDREB1A genes in moso bamboo (Phyllostachys edulis)

Li L2,
et al.

Abstract: ABSTRACT. Moso bamboo is a large woody bamboo with the highest ecological, economic, and cultural value among all bamboos in Asia. However, environmental stress influences its growth and development and limits its geographic distribution. Therefore, improving its resistance to environmental stress is extremely important. Dehydration responsive element binding (DREB) transcription factors perform an important role in the regulation of stress-related genes, enhancing the resistance of plants to abiotic stress. “…Though DREB genes are mainly involved in the process regulating the drought stress, other functions have been noted for some DREB genes. Previous studies have demonstrated that DREB genes can be induced by various abiotic stresses, including drought [ 10 13 ], low temperatures [ 14 17 ], heat stress [ 18 20 ] and high salt [ 21 23 ]. Overexpressing OsDREB2A in soybean enhanced salt tolerance by accumulating osmolytes and improving the expression levels of some stress-responsive genes and TFs [ 24 ].…”

“…In moso bamboo, drought is found to influence transpiration, warranting a specialized water use strategy to cope with the adverse consequences (Gu et al., 2019). In moso bamboo, analyzing the dehydration‐responsive element‐binding (DREB) genes, PeDREB2A and PeDREB1A , Wu, Li, et al (2015) have found that these genes differentially expressed in leaves and roots when challenged with stress factors such as cold, drought, and salt stress. DREB proteins are TFs known to play a crucial role in abiotic stress response, particularly to drought and salt, by binding to drought‐responsive elements (DREs) and regulate the reporter gene expression (Liu, Zhao, Yamaguch‐Shinozaki, & Shinozaki, 2000).…”

“…PeDREB1A проявлял сильный отклик на холодовой стресс, достигая пика в экспрессии через 3 часа после воздействия, но продемонстрировал лишь незначительный отклик на засуху и солевой стресс. В корнях транскрипция PeDREB2A была супрессирована, а PeDREB1A -первоначально активирован, но затем его активность подавлялась в условиях стресса [3,5].…”
