Co‐poly(aryl ether sulfone)s containing phthalimidine moiety in the main chain

Abstract: Several new co‐poly(arylene ether sulfone)s have been prepared by the reaction of 4,4′‐fluorodiphenyl sulfone (FDS) with different bisphenols namely 4,4′‐isopropylidenediphenol (BPA), 4,4′‐hexafluoroisopropylidenediphenol (6F‐BPA), and N‐phenyl‐3,3‐bis(4‐hydroxyphenyl)phthalimidine(PA). The homo‐poly(arylene ether sulfone)s are named as 1a, 2a, and 3a. The copolymers namely 2b, 2c, 2d and 3b, 3c, 3d have been prepared, respectively, on reaction of FDS with BPA or 6F‐BPA using different molar ratios of PA such … Show more

“…The char yields of (co)polyesters at 800 °C were in the range 29–41%. The higher % char yield values of polyesters could be attributed to the presence of cardo phthalimidine groups which are known for their excellent thermal stability characteristics . The % char yield values tend to increase with increase in the mol % content of PPH‐MA in (co)polyesters.…”

“…During the last few decades, a significant effort has been devoted to incorporating heterocyclic units into the polymer backbone for developing novel high-performance materials [1][2][3][4]. Among of these newly synthesized polymers, phenyl-striazine polymers have been well-established, in a general sense, as a class of polymeric materials of major academic and industrial importance due to their high performance as well as low cost [5,6].…”

“…Hyperbranched polymers have consecutive branching architectures and show unique properties . The most common strategy for synthesizing hyperbranched polymers is a self‐polycondensation of AB 2 type monomers.…”
