CO2 Laser-assisted Sclerectomy Surgery Part I

Abstract: The results in these experimental studies indicated that CO2 laser-assisted sclerectomy surgery using the OT-134 system is a safe and efficacious procedure for achieving effective fluid percolation.

“…[10,11] CO 2 laser-assisted sclerectomy surgery (CLASS) is an enhanced adaptation of manual deep sclerectomy by using a CO 2 laser to ablate the scleral tissue leaving a thin membrane just enough for aqueous seepage, but without entering the anterior chamber since the laser energy is absorbed once there is seepage of aqueous.…”

“…CO 2 laser-assisted sclerectomy surgery (CLASS) is a recent modification of NPDS and has been implemented to overcome the technical difficulty of the manual technique (Assia et al 2007;Ton et al 2012). CO 2 laser energy has been found useful in sclerectomy as it provides accurate ablation of dry tissues and is absorbed by fluid, which means that the aqueous humour percolating through the intact TDM intrinsically prevents excessive ablation.…”

“…Ez a technológiai fejlesztés eredmé-nyezte azt, hogy a célszövet hatékony elpárologtatása mellett a környező szövetek termikus károsodása csak 200-250 µm kiterjedésű. Az ilyen módon effektív és minimális mellékhatással rendelkező technikával reprodukálhatóan hatékonnyá vált a CLASS-műtét, és a tanulási periódus is lerövidült [8,10,16,17].…”
