Cobalt Flower-like Nanostructure as Modifier for Electrocatalytic Determination of Chloropheniramine

Abstract: In this approach, flower-like cobalt with a hierarchical structure was applied as modifier for voltammetric determination of chlorpheniramine, which is an antihistaminic drug. The flower-like cobalt nanostructures were synthesized by using a simple chemical method. They have been characterized by using scanning electron microscopy and cyclic voltammetry. The carbon paste electrode modified with cobalt nanostructures shows an excellent electrocatalytic activity and sensitivity toward chlorpheniramine due to its… Show more

“…As these methods are rather sophisticated, expensive, time consuming methods. Few attempts have also been made to use electroanalytical technique for the determination of CPM using carbon paste electrodes [17][18][19], modified glassy carbon electrode [20][21][22] and hanging mercury drop electrode [23]. However these methods have attracted much attention of researchers towards to their sensitivity for the determination of organic molecules, rapidity of analysis, inexpensive instrumentation and no complex sample pretreatment are also considered as eco-friendly [24,25].…”

“…CP displayed a well-defined anodic signal on the MWCNTs-IL-gel/GCE over a broad pH range (pH 2-12) 16,17 . This signal appears pH-dependent and is shifted toward lower anodic potentials as the pH increases, facilitating the oxidation process.…”

“…In the best of our knowledge, no electrochemical method to determine simultaneously these drugs has been reported. CP has been determined in pharmaceuticals using polarography 14 and by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) using carbon paste electrodes [15][16] , carbon paste electrodes modified with cobalt nanostructures 17 and modified glassy carbon electrodes 18 . Also, the electrochemical oxidation of CP at polytyramine film doped with ruthenium (II) complex, devoted with kinetic and thermodynamic studies have been described 19 .…”

“…Co is considered to be a type of good EM absorption material due to its high saturation magnetization, high microwave permeability, large magnetic anisotropy, high Curie temperature of about 1115 °C, and different crystal structures (hcp, fcc, bcc, etc.). So far, various Co particles with different morphologies have been synthesized such as flake‐shaped microcrystals, sword‐like nanoflowers, porous nanospheres, flake‐shaped assembly microspheres, and nanoflowers …”
