Cobalt-vanadium bimetal-based nanoplates for efficient overall water splitting

Abstract: The development of effective and low-cost catalysts for overall water splitting is essential for clean production of hydrogen from water. In this paper, we report the synthesis of cobalt-vanadium (Co-V) bimetal-based catalysts for the effective water splitting. The Co 2 V 2 O 7 ·xH 2 O nanoplates containing both Co and V elements were selected as the precursors. After the calcination under NH 3 atmosphere, the Co 2 VO 4 and Co/VN could be obtained just by tuning the calcination temperature. Electrochemical tes… Show more

“…As an important discharging process, the slow kinetics of oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) limits the overall performance of ZABs by increasing polarization and decreasing energy efficiency [10]. Commercial Pt/C catalysts are recognized as benchmark catalysts for ORR, but their high price and poor selectivity and stability impede their wide applications [11,12]. Based on the above considerations, it is necessary to develop a novel and efficient ORR catalyst originating from earth-abundant and inexpensive elements as a substitute for precious metal catalysts [13].…”

“…Exploring an efficient and applicable technology for hy-drogen generation to replace traditional fossil fuels is vitally important to relieve the energy crisis and environmental pollution [1][2][3][4][5]. Electrolytic water splitting can be divided into two half-reactions: the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and the oxygen evolution reaction (OER).…”

“…With the development of semiconductor photocatalysis [1][2][3][4], semiconductor photocatalysts ushered in a glorious era of the photocatalytic water decomposition of H 2 [5][6][7][8]. Graphitic carbon nitride is currently a prominent semiconductor material that has garnered tremendous attention in academia due to its low cost, environmental friendliness, suitable band structure and impressive physical and chemical stability [9][10][11].…”
