Cognitive Radio MANET Waveform Design and Evaluation

Abstract: The problem of waveform construction for mobile ad hoc networks with cognitive radio (MANET-CR) is discussed. This is the main limitation to widely use this very attractive technique, which does not need the deployment of expensive communication infrastructure. Two main questions correspond to MANET-CR effectiveness: spectrum sensing and spectrum sharing. The paper presents the structure of CR nodes that enables Opportunistic Spectrum Sharing. Procedures for advanced Dynamic Spectrum Management together with t… Show more

“…Each ON contains spectrum sensing module, enabling sequential monitoring of a predefined set of frequencies. To detect presence of the signal, the sensing is performed in silence periods of the transmitter [13]. Detector parameters are flexible and are controlled by sensing policy, defined by the network manager.…”

“…The performance monitoring of CR MANET with DSM was characterized using the proposed set of evaluation metrics in [12]. A solution containing our waveform used in CR nodes is presented, and results obtained in a real environment are discussed in [13].…”

“…Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANETs) have features to enable dynamic network configuration and to support data delivery between mobile nodes without infrastructure, as in tactical or disaster environments [1,2]. Since multiple mobile nodes share channels, Medium Access Control (MAC) protocols play key roles in managing and operating MANETs.…”
