Abstract:We study the coherent structures in phase space of the system consisting of a lowdensity beam at high average velocity plus a plasma well separated from the beam in velocity space. In this case, the beam can support electrostatic waves at arbitrary frequency. We show that if this frequency is greater than the linear plasma frequency, the beam has a hole structure. In the other case, the structure becomes a bump.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
