From the perspective of ecological environmental protection, higher education can not only train a large number of professionals dedicated to environmental protection for the construction of environmental quality, but more importantly, it can promote the improvement of the quality of ecological civilization in the whole society, so as to achieve the effect of indirectly improving environmental quality. BRICS economies, as the most important economies in the world, have an impact on the development of the world in many aspects. However, under the guidance of the concept of sustainable development, whether the environmental quality of BRICS economies meets the standards has also become the focus of scholars. Starting from the sustainable development path, this paper summarizes the model of environmental education in BRICS national higher education. At the same time, through the establishment of the BRICS environmental quality assessment system, the environmental quality of the BRICS countries after the implementation of environmental education was assessed based on the content of the sustainable development system. This paper performs matrix operations on the weight values of the indicators at all levels and the membership vector to obtain a 4 × 4 matrix, that is, the evaluation result Q of each indicator is [0.050, 0.200, 0.113, 0,011], which proves that the evaluation results in this paper are basically reasonable. It can be seen that in terms of forest coverage and environmental protection areas, environmental education in higher education has the deepest impact on Russia. In terms of carbon emissions, South Africa benefits the most from environmental education in higher education, so each country should take corresponding actions according to different environmental assessment results.

This article attempts to test the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) hypothesis for river water pollution for a panel dataset of 15 districts of Uttar Pradesh. There are sharp socio-economic and demographic variations within India; therefore, a regional study can give a better insight into the pollution income relationship of a specific region compared to a national study. Panel unit root tests, Pedroni cointegration test and fully modified ordinary least square (FMOLS) method have been employed to investigate EKC for two water pollutants—biochemcial oxygen demand (BOD) and total coliform (TC). Findings suggest that there is no evidence of an EKC for BOD, but results validate the existence of an EKC for TC. The Swachha Bharat Mission launched in 2014 aimed at eliminating open defecation and increasing toilet access in rural India can be a credited for the reduction in TC levels since 2014. The success of NAMAMI Gange so far seems to be localised to regions where political thrust has expedited the completion of projects.

Impact of ICT exports and internet usage on carbon emissions: a case of OECD countries

This paper investigates the causal associations between Information and communication technology (ICT) exports, internet usage, economic growth, and CO 2 emission. We use two modes of ICT exports, namely ICT goods exports, and ICT services exports. Similarly, two modes have been used for internet usage, namely number of broadband connections per 100 people, and number of internet users per 100 people. By studying 28 OECD countries for 1991-2015 and employing an error-correction model for detecting Granger causality, we find a series of short-run causal associations among the four variables. The long-run causal association results show that the economic growth is likely to converge to the long-run equilibrium path in keeping with the changes in the other three variables. Our main finding is that the group of developing countries should foster an environment, which will not only boost the ICT service exports, but also will make the penetration of broadband connections in a better way.
