Collaboration, collation, and competition: Crowdsourcing a directory of educational technology tools for teaching and learning

Abstract: This paper reports on a distinctive one-year online open crowdsourcing initiative which originated in the Republic of Ireland with a view to compiling an A–Z directory of educational technology tools for teaching and learning. Through analysis of multiple sources of data, the paper presents an intrinsic case study which outlines the design and implementation of the initiative and offers critical insights into engagement and participation in the project. The study found that participants from across the spectru… Show more

“…For instance, Jin et al's (2021) study showed that knowledge contribution affects members' performance; however, the effect depends on the volume, quality and generativity of the shared knowledge. Another study found that the coexistence of collaboration, competition and other features such as gamification are solid motives for individuals' participation in crowdsourcing initiatives (Donlon et al, 2020). Dissanayake et al (2021) recently showed that exchanging ideas and knowledge sharing in a competitive crowdsourcing environment improves participants' contest performance.…”

“…Network technology provides technical conditions for crowd sourcing (Li et al, 2021). Crowd sourcing in the Internet age is the real crowd sourcing (Donlon et al, 2020). Based on these considerations, this study takes the ratio of the number of Internet users in base cities to the number of Internet users in the country as an input variable (X 1 ) of the DEA model.…”

“…Crowd sourcing intermediaries can assist the government in researching and formulating crowd sourcing industry policies and regulations, and can also encourage users to maintain the quality of service delivery to meet the quality requirements of enterprises. In addition, crowd sourcing intermediaries are also committed to safeguarding the intellectual property rights and information security of enterprises, and cooperating with contracting parties to formulate crowd sourcing industry strategies (Donlon et al, 2020). Based on these considerations, this study takes the ratio of the number of intermediaries in base cities to the number of intermediaries in the country as an input variable (X 5 ) of the DEA model.…”

“…The rapid development of technology and the complexity of scenarios have put forward higher requirements for the technical ability and knowledge reserve of security practitioners, who may need to understand different technologies and be able to master how to design security solutions or use security tools in different scenarios, which invisibly brings high learning costs [6] . In addition, in the face of increasingly complex attack scenarios, the existing security analysis tools and security enhancement schemes can only act on one part of it without understanding the overall situation, and often do not achieve good results [7] .…”
