Collagenous Gastritis

Abstract: This report reviews the literature pertaining to collagenous gastritis and describes the clinicopathologic evolution of this disease in a patient during a 12-year period. We examined 109 biopsy specimens of gastric mucosa from 19 different endoscopic procedures for the severity and distribution of collagenous gastritis in a single patient. Assessments were undertaken for the presence of endocrine and gastrin cell hyperplasias and dysplastic epithelial changes. Relative to biopsy specimens from age- and sex-mat… Show more

“…The current literature on childhood-onset CG consists mainly of case reports ( 15 – 20 , 27 37 , 42 , 43 , 51 ), apart from 6 small case series ( 21 , 22 , 38 41 ) and 3 histopathologic studies with limited clinical information and follow-up data ( 23 , 24 , 45 ). Consequently, the knowledge regarding the evolution of the clinical, endoscopic, and histologic features of the disease over time is sparse.…”

“…Winslow et al performed a continuous 24-hour gastric pH monitoring. It demonstrated a pH less than 2 and appropriate inhibition by ranitidine (namely, pH > 4, 45% of the time) [ 15 ]. It implies that patients with collagenous gastritis do not have achlorhydria as seen in atrophic gastritis.…”
