Collins functions for pions from SIDIS and newe+edata: A first glance at their transverse momentum dependence

Abstract: New data from Belle and BaBar Collaborations on azimuthal asymmetries, measured in e + e − annihilations into pion pairs at Q 2 = 112 GeV 2 , allow to take the first, direct glance at the p ⊥ dependence of the Collins functions, in addition to their z dependence. These data, together with available Semi-Inclusive Deep Inelastic Scattering (SIDIS) data on the Collins asymmetry, are simultaneously analysed in the framework of the generalised parton model assuming two alternative Q 2 evolution schemes and exploit… Show more

“…Here we will highlight the differences with respect to the analysis of Ref. [18] starting from the new dataset: in addition to the SIDIS A sin(φ h +φ S ) U T data from HERMES off a proton target [36] and COM-PASS off proton [27] and deuteron [26] targets, and e + e − A U L(C) 0 data from Belle [33] and Babar [34], we have also included the latest BESIII data [35] for e + e − azimuthal correlations. This results in a total number of datapoints N pts = 278.…”

“…Our analysis has been carried out following the approach of Ref. [18], to which we refer the reader for all explicit expressions of the observables within the adopted parametrization. This somehow conservative choice will allow for a direct comparison with the results of Ref.…”

“…are known from studies of the azimuthal correlations of pion-pion, pion-kaon and kaon-kaon pairs produced in e + e − annihilation: e + e − → h 1 h 2 + X and the sin(φ h + φ S ) asymmetry in polarized SIDIS [9][10][11].…”
