Colorimetric assay and deodorizing/antibacterial performance of natural fabrics dyed with immature pine cone extract

Abstract: To examine the deodorizing function and antibacterial activity of fabrics dyed with the extract of immature pine cone, a natural dyeing aqueous solution (the extract of immature pine cone, a natural colorant) was prepared. The colorimetric assay and deodorizing/antibacterial performance of fabrics (cotton, silk and wool fabrics) dyed with immature pine cone extract without/with mordant (aluminum sulfate) were evaluated. The components in the aqueous extract of immature pine cone were found to be hemicellulose,… Show more

“…To date, there are few published papers employing the ISO method. [36][37][38][39] Lee et al 36,37 used the gas detector method to evaluate the deodorizing properties of natural dyes and mordants used on cotton, silk, and wool fabrics with ammonia and acetic acid as challenge odorants. No correlation of odor reduction rates with sensory panels was conducted.…”

“…The textile industry, similar to other sectors, systematically changes as a result of new product development which meets user expectations, as well as the enrichment of textile applications in various fields. Nowadays, there are many functional textiles but the most popular of them seem to be materials with antibacterial properties [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]. High demand for this type of fabric is related to the problem of increasing resistance of microorganisms to drugs [ 4 , 5 ].…”
