Combat laxative abuse by stopping stimulant laxatives and establishing healthy gastrointestinal function

Abstract

Laxative abuse is common among certain groups of individuals (e.g. those with eating disorders). The principal aims of treatment are to stop stimulant laxative use and establish healthy gastrointestinal function through the use of a fibre/osmotic supplement and patient education.
