Combined Chemotherapy

Abstract: Comined chemotherapy approaches should take into account the complex interrelationships with the host and tumor. Principles of combination drug chemotherapy that may contribute to increased antitumor specificity in the treatment of clinical neoplasia are reviewed and examples provided under the following broad headings; (a) Increased antitumor effectiveness without a proportionate increase in limiting host toxicity. This includes the biochemical concepts of sequential and concurrent blockade, complementary inh… Show more

“…The finding that ZBP-89 abolishes HCC cells in the G2-M phase and arrests them in S phase provides a piece of novel information as to how it suppresses the growth of tumor cells. The anti-tumor effectiveness often benefits from the combination of agents that function with complementary inhibition and act at different phases of the cell cycle [27,34]. The anti-tumor mechanism of ZBP-89 may not follow the pathways of 5-FU or STS.…”

“…Furthermore, chemotherapeutic combination therapies can reduce drug dosage to patients, lightening side effects while enhancing efficacy (Yu et al, 2018 ; Shrestha et al, 2019 ; Zhang et al, 2019 ). Combination chemotherapy possesses great potential for cancer treatment (Goldin, 1980 ).…”

“…The advantages of combination chemotherapy have been proven numerous times both in vitro and in vivo [21,23,26]. They include the ability to maximize cell death while minimizing toxicity through the use of drugs with nonoverlapping mechanisms of action and toxicities [8,12,26].…”
