Combined two-level guided wave structural health monitoring strategy using multifeature integration and machine learning: application to early-age grouted sleeves

Jiahe Liu,

et al.

Abstract: Structural health monitoring of grouted sleeves is one of the assembly industry’s huge challenges. In this study, a combined two-level damage detection was introduced. It comprises defect classification (healthy, rebar eccentricity, and grout leakage) and severity evaluation for early-age grouted sleeves using guided waves. Multiple features (MF) from time-, frequency-, and time-frequency domains were extracted and defined according to the diverse defects and ages of grouted sleeves to represent complex damage… Show more

“…Therefore, the excitation signal uses a ten-cycle sinusoidal modulation signal with a central frequency of 250 kHz, as shown in the following expression: where is the excitation signal; is the central frequency; and is the number of modulation periods of the Hanning window, with its time-domain and frequency-domain expressions shown in Figure 5 . The Hanning window serves to reduce the spectral leakage of the excitation signal [ 30 , 31 ].…”

“…where 𝑤 𝑡 is the excitation signal; 𝑓 kHz is the central frequency; and 𝑛 is the number of modulation periods of the Hanning window, with its time-domain and frequencydomain expressions shown in Figure 5. The Hanning window serves to reduce the spectral leakage of the excitation signal [30,31]. As shown in Figure 1, an excitation value near 250 kHz can relatively weaken the ultrasonic frequency dispersion linearity and reduce the number of modes, matching the phase velocity with the second harmonic [28].…”
