Community structure of pollinating insects and its driving factors in different habitats of Shivapuri‐Nagarjun National Park, Nepal

Abstract: Insect pollinators are important means for a stable ecosystem. The habitat types play a crucial role in the community composition, abundance, diversity, and species richness of the pollinators. The present study in Shivapuri‐Nagarjun National Park explored the species richness and abundances of insect pollinators in four different habitats and different environmental variables in determining the community composition of the pollinators. Data were collected from 1,500 m to 2,700 m using color pan traps and hand… Show more

“…The results showed that the abundance and diversity of insect pollinators differed between gardens. This fact explains again that each type of plant provides suitable habitat and different food resources for the activities of flower-visiting pollinator insects [20,34,35]. Some pollinator insect species prefer certain flowers to visit [26,36].…”

“…We then analysed their effects on pollinator abundance, species richness and visitation rate (second hypothesis). To visualize differences in pollinator community composition between agroforestry and non‐agroforestry plots, we applied non‐metric multidimensional scaling (NMDS) based on the Bray–Curtis dissimilarity matrix using the function ‘metaMDS’ in the R package ‘Vegan’ (Dyola et al., 2022; Oksanen, 2015). Subsequently, we performed a multivariate permutational analysis of variance (PERMANOVA; Anderson, 2001) to test whether the composition of the pollinator community differed significantly between agroforestry and non‐agroforestry plots, using the ‘adonis’ function in the vegan package.…”

“…RDA was carried out to determine the effect of environmental variables (elevation, latitude, longitude) on insect family richness and abundance using the packages «ggvegan» and «ggord». RDA is a method to extract and summarize the variation in a set of response variables that can be explained by a set of explanatory variables (Bellamy et al, 2018;Dyola et al, 2022). An Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was computed to test the overall significance (p-value < 0.05) of environmental variables.…”
