Compact 30 TW Laser System at KAERI

Abstract

We introduce a compact 30-TW Ti:sapphire laser system which can generate a focused intensity of ~ 1 × 10 20 W/cm 2 . The laser system composed of an oscillator, a pulse stretcher, three amplifi ers, and a pulse compressor occupies 2.0 m × 4.0 m area and utilizes two Q-switched Nd:YAG lasers for the pumping of the amplifiers. The multipass preamplifier is composed of silver mirrors for broadband amplifi cation. For the estimation of the amplifi ed spontaneous emission (ASE), a unique method of ASE channeling has been used, and the ASE level is estimated to 2 × 10 8 at nanosecond scale.
