Compact, continuous-wave, singly resonant optical parametric oscillator based on periodically poled RbTiOAsO_4 in a Nd:YVO_4 laser

Abstract: We describe a compact all-solid-state continuous-wave, singly resonant optical parametric oscillator (SRO) based on periodically poled RbTiOAsO4. The SRO is pumped at 1.064 microm by a Nd:YVO4 laser, which is itself pumped by a 3-W diode laser. Using the intracavity technique produced an oscillation threshold for the SRO of only 1.6 W (diode-laser power). For 3 W of diode pump power some 65 mW was obtained in the (nonresonant) idler (wavelength 3.52 microm). Temperature tuning over the range 10-100 degrees C r… Show more

“…A number of mid-infrared continuous waves based on IC-OPO have been reported [6][7][8][9][10][11][12]: Carleton et al reported a CW IC-OPO based on PPRbTiOAsO4 pumped by 1064nm Nd:YVO4 laser. At 3 W of input diode-laser, the maximum power of 65 mW of idler at 3.52 μm was obtained, which corresponds to an optical-to-optical conversion of efficiency of 2.17 % [6]. In 2008, an IC-OPO based on PPLN pumped by 1064nm Nd:YVO4 laser was described, whose conversion efficiency was 1.82% from 808 nm to 3.86 μm [8].…”

“…When the diode-laser power is 3 W, the maximum power 65 mW of idler at 3.52 µm was obtained, indicating an opticalto-optical conversion efficiency of 2.17%. [3] In domestic fields, only the extracavity quasi-continuous-wave OPO with output wavelength at 3-5 µm have been reported. [8,9] The OPOs are difficult in oscillating for high threshold.…”

“…Stothard et al [8] reported a cw incracavity SROPO based on PPLN, 70 mW of idler at 3.66 µm achieved at 1 W of input diode power. Carleton et al [9] provided a compact all-solid-state cw SROPO based on periodically poled RbTiOAsO 4 , for 3 W of diode pump laser they obtained 65 mW in the idler (wavelength 3.52 µm). Ding et al [10] also reported a cw SROPO based on an uncoated PPLN, at the laser diode power of 8.5 W, the SROPO delivers 155 mW of the maximum idler power, indicating an optical-to-optical conversion efficiency of 1.82%.…”
