Compact multiband monopole antenna for UMTS, WiMAX, and WLAN applications

Abstract: In this letter, a compact multiband microstrip‐fed planar monopole antenna is presented. The proposed antenna has three resonance modes which cover three bands of wireless standards including universal mobile telecommunications system band (1920–2170 MHz), 3.5 GHz worldwide interoperability for microwave access band (3.4–3.6 GHz), and 5.2 GHz wireless local area network band (5.15–5.35 GHz). The antenna has a simple structure which consists of a rectangular radiation patch with two symmetric folded slots for s… Show more

“…For WLAN/WiMAX applications, E-shaped [ 8 ], slotted triangular-shaped [ 9 ], asymmetric T-shaped [ 10 ], half mode substrate integrated cavity [ 11 ], and coplanar waveguide (CPW)-fed rectangular-shaped [ 12 ] dual-band antenna structures were presented. Several triple-band monopole antenna structures were also reported in the literature [ 13 , 14 , 15 , 16 , 17 , 18 , 19 , 20 ]. A Y-shaped radiator with a dual ring resonator [ 13 ], a Y-shaped radiator with an L-shaped slit etched from the ground plane [ 14 ], a rectangular patch integrated with a step-shaped microstrip feed line [ 15 ], L-shaped and T-shaped radiators [ 16 ], a T-shaped resonator with an open slot etched from the ground plane [ 17 ], rectangular patch with two symmetrical E-shaped slots etched from the ground plane [ 18 ], multibranch strips [ 19 ], and overlapping strips [ 20 ] were proposed for LTE, WiMAX, and WLAN applications.…”

“…Microstrip-fed monopole antenna exhibits three resonance modes covering UMTS, WiMAX, and WLAN bands. The rectangular patch includes two symmetric folded slots/step shape microstrip feed line and a rectangular ground plane with dimensions of 30 mm × 34 mm × 0.8 mm [11]. The rectangular patch including two L -shaped stubs and three slots on the ground plane provides circular polarization for WWAN, WiMAX, and WLAN wireless communication systems [12].…”

“…F-shaped radiator with defected ground plane results in triple band of operation intended to cover WiMAX and WLAN applications [9]. Ground plane and radiating patch over the antenna size of 30×34×0.8 mm 3 is capable of covering UMTS, WiMAX and WLAN wireless applications [10]. L-U shaped slots on rectangular patch, combination of fractals (Koch Snowflake and Sierpinski Carpet) also results in multiband functional antennas [11][12].…”
