Show more

“…Extractions with 0.1‐M NaOH yielded much lower quantities of Fe(OOH)≈P. This observation is in agreement with the results reported by De Groot and Golterman (1990), Salvia‐Castelvi, Scholer and Hoffmann (2002). The mineralization of the supernatant indicates that NaOH extract some org‐P present in sediment as well (Table 1).…”

“…The loosely sorbed P, which was extracted with MgCl 2 and NH 4 Cl at constant rate during three subsequent extractions came probably from the interstitial P. The neutral pH of the extractions prevents the dissolution of CaCO 3 % P. The Ca-EDTA/CDB solutions have therefore an advantage over NaOH to remove both Fe(OOH) and Fe(OOH)P with optimal e⁄ciency. Extractions with 0.1-M NaOH yielded much lower quantities of Fe(OOH) % P. This observation is in agreement with the results reported by De Groot and Golterman (1990), Salvia-Castelvi, Scholer and Ho¡mann (2002). “…The highest value is observed at the sampling station R4 and can be attributed to the settlement of finer particles due to slower water flow (Yang, He, Lin, & Stoffella, 2010). Low values of soluble phosphorus concentration have also been found in other studies (Salvia-Castellvi, Scholer, &Hoffmann, 2002;Taoufik & Dafir, 2002;Taoufik, Kemmou, Loukili Idrissi, & Dafir, 2004;Kemmou, Dafir, Wartiti, & Taoufik, 2006). …”

“…Alluvial deposits present an important archive of environmental changes through hydroclimatic cycles (Salvia-Castellvi et al, 2002). These sediments can record changes in paleowater flow, which is an approximation of precipitation rates and climate (Salvia-Castellvi et al, 2002).…”

These sediments can record changes in paleowater flow, which is an approximation of precipitation rates and climate (Salvia-Castellvi et al, 2002). Almost all the studies aimed at reconstructing the Quaternary paleoclimates in the Maghreb from geological formations were based on morphological, sedimentological and/or pedological analyses (Wengler et al, 1992).…”
