Comparative analyses of the complete mitochondrial genomes of Dosinia clams and their phylogenetic position within Veneridae

Abstract: Mitochondrial genomes have proved to be a powerful tool in resolving phylogenetic relationship. In order to understand the mitogenome characteristics and phylogenetic position of the genus Dosinia, we sequenced the complete mitochondrial genomes of Dosinia altior and Dosinia troscheli (Bivalvia: Veneridae), compared them with that of Dosinia japonica and established a phylogenetic tree for Veneridae. The mitogenomes of D. altior (17,536 bp) and D. troscheli (17,229 bp) are the two smallest in Veneridae, which … Show more

“…ATP8 gene, which lacks in most of the heterodont bivalves was identified in V. cyprinoides , encoding a protein of 37 amino acids. No putative conserved domains were detected by pBLAST, whereas conserved amino acid block (WW**KR*Y*F) were identified as in certain species in family Veneridae 44 and Cardiidae 45 (Supplementary Figure S2 ).…”

“…Anticodon of all tRNA genes was succeeded by Uracil and preceded by Guanine or Adenine in the anticodon loop of V. cyprinoides . The DHU stem of least conserved trn S1 and trn S2 genes 48 were replaced by a large DHU loop, an accepted feature in molluscs 44 , 49 . DHU stem of trn Y gene is reduced to one nucleotide pair.…”

“…The complete mitogenome of M. mercenaria was 18,360 bp in length (GeneBank Accession: MN233789), which was within the range of genome sizes for already sequenced molluscan mitogenomes. The mitogenome size was similar to Dosinia clam and length differences were mostly due to the size variations of the non-coding region (Lv et al 2018). The overall base composition was 27.17% A, 21.62% G, 9.44% C, and 41.77% T. The GC content was 31.06%.…”

“…The size of the newly sequenced mitogenome is comparable to other Noctuoidea species, which range from 15,377 bp (Agrotis ipsilon) to 15,801 bp (Gynaephora minora) ( Table 3). The variation in size is generally due to differences in the length of their non-coding regions (intergenic spacers and A+T rich region) (Lv et al, 2018).…”
