Comparative Analysis of the Complete Mitochondrial Genomes of Apium graveolens and Apium leptophyllum Provide Insights into Evolution and Phylogeny Relationships

Xiaoyan Li,
Mengyao Li,
Weilong Li
et al.

Abstract: The genus Apium, belonging to the family Apiaceae, comprises roughly 20 species. Only two species, Apium graveolens and Apium leptophyllum, are available in China and are both rich in nutrients and have favorable medicinal properties. However, the lack of genomic data has severely constrained the study of genetics and evolution in Apium plants. In this study, Illumina NovaSeq 6000 and Nanopore sequencing platforms were employed to identify the mitochondrial genomes of A. graveolens and A. leptophyllum. The com… Show more

“…A Ka/Ks ratio greater than 1 indicates positive selection, where the non-synonymous substitution rate (Ka) exceeds the synonymous substitution rate (Ks). Conversely, if Ks surpasses Ka or the Ka/Ks ratio is less than 1, it signifies negative selection 55 . The Ka/Ks values of common protein-coding genes in the P. frutescens Mitochondrial genome were calculated and compared with nine Lamiaceae species (Ajuga reptans, Lavandula angustifolia, Platostoma chinense, Pogostemon heyneanus, Prunella vulgaris, Rotheca serrata, Scutellaria barbata, Scutellaria franchetiana, Vitex trifolia) (Figure 5).…”
