Comparative analysis of three different filling techniques and the effects of experimental internal resorptive cavities on apical microleakage

Abstract: Objectives:The aim of this study was to evaluate the sealing abilities of three different gutta-percha techniques in experimentally defective roots (EDR) and non-defective roots (NR).Materials and Methods:Sixty canine teeth were divided into six groups of ten; Group 1, NR + cold lateral condensation (CLC); Group 2, EDR + LC; Group 3, NR + BeeFill; Group 4, EDR + BeeFill; Group 5, NR + Thermafil; and Group 6, EDR + Thermafil. Apical leakage was measured using a computerized fluid filtration meter with a laser s… Show more

“…4 In view of these characteristics, AH Plus is currently regarded as the clinical reference standard endodontic sealer. 5 Calcium silicate-based bioactive sealers, such as Total Fill BC Sealer and Sure Seal Root sealer, are becoming more popular due to their improved mechanical, chemical and cytocompatible properties. 6 They are reported to be insoluble, premixed and hydrophilic, which could minimize the risk of void formation in the root canal sealers, and might even benefit from the pre-existing moisture in the root canals during their final setting.…”

“…The computerized fluid filtration technique which has a digital air pressure arrangement and computerized control is an upgraded model of conventional fluid filtration technique, this upgraded model was used to evaluate apical leakage in many studies. [ 17 18 19 ] Computerized fluid filtrate method has some advantages over conventional leakage tests; so that, the samples are not affected from the test procedures, the measurements can be repeated.…”

“…[ 7 ] BeeFill system (BeeFill 2in1) is a warm vertical compaction system which consists of downpack and backfilling device. [ 8 ] Silicone-based sealer, RoekoSeal Automix (RSA, Roeko, Langenau, Germany) contains polydimethylsiloxane, silicone oil, paraffin-based oil, hexachloroplatinic acid (catalyst), and zirconium dioxide for the radiopacity, has been used for the study.
