Comparative Assessment of the Shaping and Cleaning Abilities of M-Pro and Revo-S versus ProTaper Next Rotary Ni-Ti Systems: An In Vitro study

Abstract: Objective:The aim of the present study was to compare the canal transportation, centering ratio, debris and smear layer score after using 3 rotary Ni-Ti systems, Revo-S (RS; Micro-Mega, Besancon Cedex, France) and ProTaper Next (PTN; Dentsply Tulsa Dental Specialties, Tulsa, OK) and M-Pro system( Guangdong, China, Mainland). Material and methods: Thirty nine mesiobuccal root canals of extracted lower first molars with 20˚ to 45˚ angle of curvature and were divided randomly into 3 groups of 13 samples each: gro… Show more

“…In the current study, no significant difference was found in the coronal third of the canals between the three groups and the canal cleanliness decreased from the coronal to the apical part of the root canal. These observations come in accordance with the results of researches conducted by Girgis et al 20 and Machado et al 21 . This could be due to the relatively wider diameter and proximity to irrigation devices that render the coronal third more susceptible to irrigation technique rather than the preparation technique.…”

“…In this study, PTN instruments showed better debris and smear layer removal due to their off-centered rectangular cross section causing a snake-like swaggering movement of the file as it advances into the root canal that generates enlarged space for debris removal. This is supported by Girgis et al 20 and Ismail et al 24 who confirmed the superior cleaning effectiveness of PTN compared to other systems with different kinematics and design. The present study showed that Mtwo instruments have good cleaning efficiency that can be attributed to their double-cutting edge S-shaped cross-sectional geometry with minimal radial contact and small core diameter.…”

“…As reported before, PTG's heat treated NiTi alloy (CM-wire like), should allow the file to be more flexible than PTU and PTN [32] thus it respects canal curvatures better. M-Wire is also a novel heat treated NiTi alloy, that allows instrument to be more flexible [9,22]. Although PTN was made of M-wire, it was found that RS, with R-phased NiTi alloy, was more flexible than PTN with the differences in blade-design [33] and the CM-wire like NiTi alloy of PTG was found more flexible than M-Wire.…”

“…Revo-S (RS; Micro-Mega, Besancon Cedex, France), is made with R-phased wire and has an asymmetric cross-section blade design to reduce the stress on the instrument and prevents canal penetration and directs the debris through the coronal [9]. This design cause more flexibility and adequate shaping ability.…”

“…Following that, a single file technique has developed for the purpose of shaping canals, regardless of the diameter, length, or curvature of their bodies. Nickel-Titanium single file systems has been implemented into endodontics because they increase the efficiency of root canal preparation, provide predictable treatment outcomes, and cause less iatrogenic harm, including in severely curved canals (7) . Numerous single file system has been promoted to be used in preparation of root canal with a single instrument using continuous rotation or reciprocation motion.…”
