Comparative Characterization of the Complete Mitochondrial Genomes of the Three Apple Snails (Gastropoda: Ampullariidae) and the Phylogenetic Analyses

Abstract: The apple snails Pomacea canaliculata, Pomacea diffusa and Pomacea maculate (Gastropoda: Caenogastropoda: Ampullariidae) are invasive pests causing massive economic losses and ecological damage. We sequenced and characterized the complete mitochondrial genomes of these snails to conduct phylogenetic analyses based on comparisons with the mitochondrial protein coding sequences of 47 Caenogastropoda species. The gene arrangements, distribution and content were canonically identical and consistent with typical Mo… Show more

“…Time-scaled ultrametric trees were inferred independently for arthropods, molluscs and annelids by using a node-dating approach on species trees that followed the most recent topologies (Richter et al 2001; Colgan et al 2007; Lindgren 2010; Kocot et al 2011;Smith et al 2011; Wiegmann et al 2011; Kocot et al 2013; Misof et al 2014; González et al2015; Razkin et al 2015; Salvi and Mariottini 2016; Uribe et al 2016; Kocot et al 2017; Peters et al 2017; Uribe and Zardoya 2017; Wang et al 2017; Fernández et al 2018; Johnson et al 2018; Pabst and Kocot 2018; Schwentner et al 2018; Yang et al 2018; Cunha and Giribet 2019; Kawahara et al 2019; Kocot et al 2019; Lee et al 2019; Lozano-Fernandez et al 2019; McKenna et al 2019; Doğan et al 2020; Erséus et al 2020;Kocot et al 2020; Sun et al 2020; Anderson and Lindgren 2021; Kallal et al 2021; Moles and Giribet 2021; Ontano et al 2021; Smith 2021; Ballesteros et al 2022). “…In theory, purified selection would eliminate harmful mutations in the population [25]. The ATP8 gene had the highest Ka/Ks value, and it is also found in fungi [26], flies [27], snails [28], and insects [29]. The COXI gene had the lowest value, which showed it was the most conserved gene.…”
