Comparative evaluation of growth factors from platelet concentrates: An in vitro study

Abstract: Aim: The aim of the study was to compare and evaluate the various growth factors released for a period of 23 days from platelet rich fibrin (PRF) and platelet rich fibrin matrix (PRFM). Materials and Methods: A total of 15 systemically healthy controls were recruited and 10 ml of blood sample was withdrawn from the individual. Following the standard centrifugation protocol, PRF and PRFM were prepared. The platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), vascular endothelial growt… Show more

“…The PRFs release a high amount of growth factors including transforming growth factor-β1 and β2 (TGFβ-1 and TGFβ-2), platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), insulin-like growth factor 1 and 2 (IGF-1 and IGF-2), fibroblasts growth factor (FGF), and matrix glycoproteins (such as thrombospondin-1) for at least 7 days in vitro. [10][11][12] The PDGF occurs in the form of both homodimers (PDGF-AA and PDGF-BB) and heterodimers (PDGF-AB), and influences the synthesis of DNA strains, inducing angiogenesis, chemotaxis, and mitogenesis of fibroblasts, osteoblasts and monocytes. It cooperates with IGFs, which, in turn, leads to the differentiation of fibroblasts into osteoblasts, further increasing the amount of bone collagen in osteoblasts.…”

“…To the best of our knowledge only one paper [52] compared PRFM and PRF products, in terms of growth factor release. In this study, PRFM and PRF were obtained by "home-made" protocols and appeared to have a different kinetic release.…”

(Peric et al, 2015;Pascale et al, 2015;Chatterjee & Debnath, 2019;Kornsuthisopon et al, 2020).…”
