Comparative evaluation of soft tissue changes one year post-treatment in Twin Block and FORSUS FRD treated patients

Abstract: m e d i c a l j o u r n a l a r m e d f o r c e s i n d i a 7 2 ( 2 0 1 6 ) 3 6 2 -3 6 6 a r t i c l e i n f o Methods: This was a retrospective cephalometric study involving 10 patients with skeletal class II abnormalities in each group. The mean age of patients was 12.5 AE 1.5 and 13.5 AE 1 years and treatment duration 20 AE 2 and 18 AE 2 months, respectively for TB and FORSUS FRD groups, respectively. The pre-treatment (T0) and one-year post-treatment cephalograms (T1) were compared for evaluation. Data wer… Show more

“…Patients with Class II malocclusion usually have a convex facial profile and a retraction of the soft tissue pogonion. A very significant decrease in the convexity of the facial profile emerged in the group of subjects treated with TB, evaluated thanks to the increase in the angle of the convexity (CON angle) and very similar results were found by Baysal and Uysal and other authors [ 6 , 32 , 33 ]. A significant increase in the angle Z was also observed in the three groups of subjects treated, especially in the TB group, a direct consequence of the anterior displacement of the soft tissue pogonion.…”

“…17 Similar results were reported by Chaudhary et al whereby the soft tissue profile angle increased significantly after treatment. 22 One of the benefits of this research is to guide the thinking and practice of orthodontists and to aid in explaining the outcome of the treatment to the patient. Besides, the results from this research may also contribute information on the changes of soft tissue facial profile using Twin Block appliance and as a base data for future research in orthodontics.…”

“…Sınıf II maloklüzyona sahip 20 hastada Twin-blok ve Forsus apareylerinin yumuşak doku değişimlerini karşılaştırdıkları araştır-malarında; Twin-blok apareyinin daha çok iskeletsel yapılar üzerine etki ederek yumuşak doku değişimleri meydana getirdiğini, Forsus apareyinin ise daha çok dental yapılar üzerine etki ederek yumuşak doku değişimleri meydana getirdiğini ancak yumuşak doku açısından her iki apareyinde aynı etkiye sahip olduğunu belirtmiş-lerdir. 25 Hourfar ve ark. Foksiyonel Mandibular Advancer apareyi ile Herbst apareyinin yumuşak doku profil değişimlerini 42 hastada karşılaştırdıkları araştırmalarında, her iki apareyin de yumuşak dokular üzerinde olumlu yönde benzer etkiye sahip olduğunu bildirmişlerdir.…”
