Comparative Evaluation of Two Different Marketed Brands of Enalapril maleate

Abstract: Efficacy of pharmaceuticals dosage form generally depends on their formulation properties and manufacturing methods, hence it is likely that the quality of dosage form may vary. Renin acts on angiotensinogen to form angiotensin I, which is converted to angiotensin II by angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE). Angiotensin II, a potent vasoconstrictor increases blood pressure by increasing vasopressin production and aldosterone secretion. Enalaprilat, the active metabolite of enalapril, inhibits ACE, hence decrease… Show more

“…According to the Biopharmaceutics Classification System (BCS), 5-ASA itself is categorized as a BCS class IV drug (low solubility, low permeability). It is slightly soluble in water and, following its oral administration, is poorly absorbed (approximately 25%) [ 21 ] . Most of the oral 5-ASA products on the market have a pH-dependent coat, which enables them to withstand the release of 5-ASA in the stomach (which has a low pH) and be released in the intestine with a higher pH [ 20 , 22 ] .…”

“…Emulsion polymerization approach can target vesicle to colon by using pickering of emulsion technique instead of surfactant which leads to improve the stability of vesicles. For example, by using pickering polymerization is one of technique in which solid-stabilized emulsion obtained on addition of fine powder with water and oily solvent without using any surfactant (21,22) and at the water-oil interface the adsorption energy of solid particles is higher than that of surfactant (23,24). Pickering of emulsion has many advantages if used in place surfactant like better stability, enzyme immobilization, ability to develop as targeted delivery (25).…”

“…The common pharmacological antihypertensive medication classes used as an initial treatment for hypertension are diuretics, calcium channel blockers (CCBs), and angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors (3). From these latter two classes, amlodipine besylate and enalapril maleate are the common medications prescribed for patients with hypertension (4,5).…”

“…Enalapril maleate is commonly used to treat hypertension because it reduces peripheral vascular resistance, which in turn lowers blood pressure. It is also recommended for the treatment of congestive heart failure (5,11,14). Enalapril maleate and its metabolite are primarily excreted in urine (10,11).…”
