y acre in open fields and 415-500 qtl/acre in greenhouses. The major states that grow bell peppers in greenhouses are Punjab, Maharashtra, and Karnataka. These plants are infected by a number of pathogens, including bacteria, fungus, nematodes, and viruses. Viruses are among the most important pathogens threatening bell peppers, leading to a significant loss in output and fruit quality (Devendran et al. 2022).Geminiviridae family is the largest family of plant viruses (in terms of total number of species) comprising of species with characteristic single-stranded (ss) and covalently closed circular (ccc) DNA genomes. It is also the most prevalent plant virus family, the members of which infect monocot as well as dicot plants (Brown et al. 2015;Zerbini et al. 2017). Geminiviridae is currently divided into fourteen genera, namely Becurtovirus, Begomovirus, Capulavirus, Citlodavirus, Curtovirus, Eragovirus, Grablovirus, Maldovirus, Mastrevirus, Mulcrilevirus, Opunvirus, Topilevirus, Topocuvirus, and Turncurtovirus, on the basis of their host range, insect vectors, and genome organizations (Roumagnac et al. 2022;Walker et al. 2020). According to the latest ICTV 2022 report, it contains more than 520 species and Begomovirus is one of the most important genera in the Geminiviridae family. It represents 88% of Yogesh Kumar
