Comparative Investigation on Mechanical Properties of Natural Fiber Reinforced Polyester Composites

Abstract: The aim of present experimental investigation is to compare the mechanical properties of Sisal, jute and kenaf fiber reinforced with glass fiber in polyester matrix hybrid composites. Hybrid composites were fabricated by hand lay-up technique. The tensile, flexural and impact tests were carried out on different composite samples as per the ASTM standards. It was observed that the tensile strength of jute/glass fiber composite is 1.94 and 1.59 times more than that of sisal/glass and kenaf/glass composites, resp… Show more

“…Mechanical testing of natural fiber-reinforced polymer composites is quite essential to determine its tensile strength, flexural strength, impact strength, hardness and water absorption property. Numerous studies have been carried out on mechanical testing on natural fiber-reinforced polymer composites [6][7][8][9][10][11][12]. Mechanical properties of natural fiber-reinforced polymer composites depend on various factors such as type of fiber, fiber-to-matrix ratio, stacking sequence of fiber, fiber orientation, manufacturing method and number of layers.…”

“…L1 was shown to be more attractive than L3 (Sanjay & Yogesha, 2016). Muthukumar et al (2014) fabricated three concentrations: jute/glass fiber composite; sisal/glass composite and kenaf/glass composite. Sisal/glass fiber combination flexural strength 3.4 time greater than others.…”

“…Prater et al [8] evaluated how the chosen harder tool materials effects in the tool wear in the FSW of MMCs while considering O1 steel, cemented carbide tool having micrograin and as well as submicrograin varieties and diamond coated WC-Co as tool materials. Apart from applying aluminum based MMC in specific applications, many research had developed newer natural composites [9] and polymer composites [10] with enhanced properties for engineering applications. In this work, cast Al6061/20%SiC/2%MoS 2 MMC is processed in friction stir welding to study the effects of process parameters, direction of tool rotation and tool rotation speed on metallurgical and mechanical behavior of the cast MMC.…”
