Transportation is very important issue in everyone’s life as the things need to be carried from one place to another. It plays vital role to transport various health equipment’s, groceries and daily needs of the people from outside and inside the country. The intelligent transport system is actually a system that uses the digital technologies to smoothen the transport system helping them to overcome the issue of accidents, reduce the pollution, reduces the traffic congestion on roads and helps them in delivering the services timely. Many researchers integrated various Virtual technologies to propose the best Intelligent Transport System. In this work, the existing work on the Intelligent Transport System done in last twenty years has been analyzed to address various issues and problems in the existing ITS models. The security aspects has also been addressed along with the various vulnerabilities and solutions to protect ITS. We provided a comprehensive study of existing literature on Intelligent Transport System, their highlights, merits and demerits. The research papers focused on Intelligent Transport System has been analyzed and at last out of 80 research papers best 70 were included in this work for the study of ITS. The objectives of this study are to provide insights to the beginners of this research area and to analyze the existing solutions aiming to provide the Intelligent Transport System. The future research directions have also been proposed in this work.

Recently, the fast growth of communication technology has led to the design and implementation of different types of networks in different environments. One of these remarkable networks is vehicular ad hoc network (VANET).The ubiquitous connectivity among vehicles is possible through VANET in the absence of fixed infrastructure. Moreover, it provides safety and comfort to people sitting in the vehicles. In this regard, collecting information from vehicles that are moved constantly is an essential challenge. To develop an efficient method for data collection in the VANET, some parameters must be considered such as data aggregation, latency, packet delivery ratio, packet loss, scalability, security, transmission overhead, and vehicle density. Since data collection has a significant importance in the VANET, the aim of this study is to investigate the existing methods and describe the types of important issues and challenging problems that can be addressed in data collection in the VANET. The data collection techniques are investigated in four primary groups, namely, topology-based, cluster-based, geocast-based, and fog-based.Also, the mentioned parameters are important to compare all of the presented techniques. KEYWORDS communication architecture, data collection, VANET, vehicle-to-vehicle communication, vehicular ad hoc networks | INTRODUCTIONOne of the growing disruptive innovation is the Internet of things (IoT), which allows physical devices to communicate over heterogeneous networks. 1-3 Moreover, one of the IoT applications is vehicular ad hoc network (VANET), 4 which has been developed as a powerful technology aimed at providing safety and comfort to people sitting in the vehicles. 5,6 Moreover, it affords wireless communication among vehicles, and dynamic traffic data is transferred with a high accuracy and low cost. 7,8 The VANET is a module of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) and a subdivision of mobile ad hoc network (MANET). 9,10 Typically, the vehicles are armed with sensing equipment and have a high storage and processing capacity. 11 The unique features of the VANETs include higher node density, instability of wireless channel and limited bandwidth, predictability of vehicular pathway, highly dynamic network topology that change quickly and repeatedly, sufficient energy and resources, and hard delay constraints. 12-14 A large scale of VANET is foreseen to be available in the near future because of the rapid growth of vehicles equipped with communication abilities. 15 The data dissemination and the data collection of vehicles are two significant factors supported by VANET. 16

Prefetching the data is a popular technique that improves data accessibility in wired or wireless networks. In mobile ad hoc networks(MANET), the possibility to improve the access latency and cache hit ratio may reduce due to the mobility of nodes and only limited cache space available in mobile hosts (MHs). To eliminate this problem in wireless networks, Global Cooperative Caching(GCC) with Image Prefetching (IP) algorithm is proposed that prefetches the image based on similarity measurement between data items and integrated with Gateway Selection Algorithm (GSA) for increasing throughput and reducing delay in the networks. Design implementation and analysis are done using Network Simulator 2(NS2) and MATLAB tool used to calculate the performance parameters of the proposed algorithm and also the parameters are compared with GCCIP to prove that proposed GCCIP-GSA algorithm have greatly improved the system performance in terms of packet loss, delay, throughput and resource utilization compared to existing schemes. Throughput analysis shows that GSA GCCIP results 13.63% higher throughput and 31.25% reduction in latency than conventional GCCIP. The Mean Square Error(MSE) and Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR) has been evaluated for different kind of images such as cameraman, lena, and baboon. In Proposed GCCIP-GSA, 28.8%, 23.75%, and 18.66% of MSE has been reduced compared to GCCIP for three different images respectively. At that same time, 60%, 55.6%, and 50% of PNSR has been improved in proposed method than conventional method.
