“…In the randomized comparative study by Blumen et al,35 the Somnus generator induced more prolonged pain than the other three generators (Coblator, Select Sutter, and Surgitron). The Surgitron device was better tolerated in terms of severity and duration of discomfort experienced, and induced a lower steroid intake.…”

“…Most of the SP RFA studies published have been performed with Somnus Medical Technologies devices. We found only one randomized controlled trial comparing devices made by various manufacturers,35 with no evidence on differences in treatment efficacy, suggesting that the choice of a generator cannot be guided by variation in efficacy. Although statistically significant differences were observed in terms of adverse effects, levels of discomfort were extremely low for all the generators.…”

“…Many cohort studies and a few randomized controlled trials or clinical controlled trials have compared MIS with a placebo [5][9], different energy generators [10], different material rigidity [11], or different operative techniques [12], [13]. RF of the soft palate produces volumetric tissue reduction [14] and selective scar tissue [5] to reduce obstruction and induce stiffness.…”
