Comparative study of the explosion pressure characteristics of micro- and nano-sized coal dust and methane–coal dust mixtures in a pipe

Abstract: Coal dust explosion accidents often cause substantial property damage and casualties and frequently involve nano-sized coal dust. In order to study the impact of nano-sized coal on coal dust and methane-coal dust explosions, a pipe test apparatus was used to analyze the explosion pressure characteristics of five types of micro-nano particle dusts (800 nm, 1200 nm, 45 lm, 60 lm, and 75 lm) at five concentrations (100 g/m 3 , 250 g/m 3 , 500 g/m 3 , 750 g/m 3 , and 1000 g/m 3 ). The explosion pressure characteri… Show more

“…In recent years, the problem of dust management has been paid more and more attention. (Luo et al 2017;Reed et al 2018Reed et al , 2019Shahan and Reed 2019;Yao et al 2020;Tan et al 2020). Dust reduction by wetting as the most commonly used method is far more effective than ventilation.…”

“…Long-forced-short-extracted ventilation is a common dust suppression method in mechanized excavation faces (Liu et al 2019c;Wang et al 2018a, b;Tan et al 2020;Wang et al 2019g). However, this technique cannot effectively control dust production at the mechanized excavation face.…”

“…A report by the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) states that, since 1968, black lung has caused or contributed to the deaths of 76,000 coal miners [21]. Additionally, a coal dust explosion triggered by a methane explosion as a result of high dust concentration in the mine entries poses a serious safety concern [22][23][24][25][26][27][28][29].
