Comparative Study on Biosynthesis of Valuable Antimicrobial and Antitumor Nano-Silver Using Fresh Water Green and Blue-Green Microalgae

Abstract: Two levels Plackett-Burman experimental design was employed to screen the main factors that significantly affect the synthesis of bioactive silver nanoparticles. Scenedesmus obliquus ethanol extract, Scenedesmus obliquus dried algal powder and Spirulina platensis aqueous extract   were the most favorable reducing and capping agents. Also the high pH value (10), rpm (150), high concentration of AgNO3 (4 mM) and dark conditions had the highest significant influence on biosynthesis of active nanoparticles. Charac… Show more

“…Another major mode of action is the release of metal ions from nanoparticles after crossing the cell interstitium. Due to charge difference, the metal ions will cause destruction to the fungal cell wall by inactivation of sulfhydryl group [10]. This in turn leads to leakage of cellular content such as disruption of membrane bound enzymes and lipids, which ends with pathogen death [4].…”

“…The bio-based methods for preparation of nanoparticles can be safely scaled up for large scale production as they are simple, relatively inexpensive, economically, and environmentally green ( Mohanpuria et al, 2008 , Iravani, 2011 , Prabhu and Poulose, 2012 ). Biosynthesis of silver-nanoparticles using biological entities such as the extracts of, bacteria, yeast, fungi, algae, or plants attracted researchers in the area of nanotechnology in last few decades ( Malik et al, 2014 , Alharbi et al, 2020 ).…”
