“…Although this heritage village is classified as a new spot located in the city of Malang, the progress and number of visitors who come to kampong heritage Kayutangan from time to time have increased (exceptions in mid-2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic). This is in line with the development of heritage tourism objects in Indonesia in particular and in Asia in general (O'Hare,1997;Gordon, 2018;Macbeth, 2021), such as several building complexes in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam with French colonial building style, Yangon, Myanmar old city which has many British colonial buildings, Malacca by the Dutch and Portuguese in Malaysia, Penang and Phuket with British colonial buildings and Spanish colonial buildings in Vigan City, Philippines (Wood, 1980;Taylor, 2015;Yotsumoto and Vafandari, 2021). Kajoetangan or Kayutangan kampong heritage is a new tourist spot in Malang that emphasizes the empowerment of local communities in realizing settlement-based sustainable tourism that existed during the colonial era which was composed of dozens of Indische architecture in the late 19th to early 20th centuries. Kayutangan heritage villages are composed of settlements with a small size with access in the form of a small footpath combined with a mural and various outdoor plants. The houses in the area have not changed for nearly a hundred years, which have been passed down from generation to generation. Descriptive qualitative method is used in this research by combining the data obtained based on in-depth interviews, survey and combined with literature studies. Purpose of this research is to explore historical sequences and processes of sustainable tourism management controlled by local residents with financial assistance from various partners. The results of the study show that the role of local communities is quite positive in efforts to support tourists either by being directly or indirectly involved by building supporting facilities for core tourism such as culinary spots and souvenirs. Collaboration with several government agencies, universities and banks also makes the additions and directions in making and using additional facilities more structured.

Objective: Rural landscapes that stand out for being solution areas in terms of adaptation to climate change and food security, and especially Selge Ancient settlement and agricultural terraces, which contain an example of agricultural landscapes that includes production systems in these areas, were examined within the scope of the Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS) program. Material and Methods: The study method is based on the examination of the characteristics of GIAHS fields, the selection criteria of GIAHS systems, the nomination processes and action plans, and the fields included in the GIAHS program. Selge ancient agricultural terraces were evaluated under the headings in accordance with the criteria. Results: GIAHS is based on traditional agricultural systems and landscapes, and sustainable development is envisioned for globally unconventional traditional agricultural systems. For this reason, selection criteria are among the most important components of the candidacy process. Selge agricultural terraces meet the traditional agricultural systems and agricultural landscapes on which GIAHS is based, together with their tangible and intangible values. Conclusion: If the city of Selge is included in the GIAHS system, support will be provided for the measures expected to be taken and the suggestions brought about the traditional production methods and agricultural terraces, which stand out in the city.

Community-based tourism (CBT) is a development strategy for the community to manage its resources through the use of tourism as a medium. For CBT to operate, communities may rely on the external assistance in their development project. These stakeholders are academia, local government, and international organizations. This paper compares the work efficiency of these stakeholders’ and their involvement in operating CBT strategies. A total of 535 online respondents with work experience as different stakeholders are gathered and compared. The results shows that local government involvement is ranked the most attentive by the community, followed by the assistance of academia, the community itself, and international organizations (where appropriate). This outcome supports the idea in the literature where government is the most crucial external stakeholder to reach out to during the planning stage of CBT development, but it also suggests that the involvement of academics is more efficient than that of international organizations, possibly due to the fact that academics are from a smaller set of individuals or group with theories and consultancy expertise in the field of CBT rather than the international organizations that are more general with the power and resources they could offer. In future study, in-depth interviews with different stakeholder members would allow further explanation and observation of these relationships.
