Comparison and testing of GOCE global gravity models in Central Europe

Abstract: Three different global gravity model solutions have been released by the European GOCE Gravity Consortium: a direct solution, a time-wise solution and a space-wise solution. To date, two releases of each solution have been issued. Each of these solutions has specific positives and weaknesses. This paper shows and analyzes the differences between each solution in Central Europe by means of comparison with respect to the EGM2008 and GOCO02S global gravity models. In order to make an independent comparison, the g… Show more

“…We acknowledge that other methods exist to assess the performance of low-degree GGMs complete to different spherical harmonic degree, e.g. compare local or regional grids of various functionals of the disturbing potential computed to identical spherical harmonic degrees [12], but these topics are beyond the scope of this present study.…”

“…Many researchers have investigated the contribution of GGMs produced from CHAMP, GRACE, and GOCE satellites in local and global geoid models for various areas of the earth (Amos and Featherstone 2003;Kiamehr and Sjöberg 2005;Rodriguez-Caderot et al 2006;Benahmed Dahoa et al 2006;Ustun and Demirel 2006;Erol et al 2009;Kotsakis and Katsambalos 2010;Yilmaz et al 2010;Janak and Pitonak 2011;Gikas et al 2013;Godah and Krynski 2013;Soycan 2014). Various methods and approaches have been suggested as a result of the above-mentioned research.…”

“…We have to mention here that several studies concerning the validation as well as the accuracy assessment of GOCE-based GGMs have been performed in different regions of the world by different research teams, e.g. [14] [15] [16] worldwide; [17] [18] in Germany; [19] in Central Europe: [20] in Poland; [21] in Norway; [22] in Brazil; [23] [24] in Sudan and [25] in Saudi Arabia.…”
