Abstract:This paper compares some methods for predicting the outage time of microwave digital links. The first is based on a statistical channel model proposed by Rummler [1]-[2]. This is probably the most popular and is often referred to in the North American literature. The second has been proposed in [3]-[4] and is used by TELETTRA in evaluating digital radio performance. The third, due to Campbell and Coutts [5]-[6], is similar to the previous one and has been adopted by the Australian PTT.
