Comparison of a perfusion simulator to a clinical operating room: evaluation of eye tracking data and subjective perception. A pilot study

Abstract: Background: With the aim of evaluating the perfusion simulator at the German Heart Center Berlin, similarity between simulation and clinical operation room (OR) was investigated regarding subjective perception and eye movement. Methods: Eight perfusionists performed an operation on the heart-lung machine (HLM) wearing eye tracking glasses, each in real OR and simulator. The three most important phases for perfusionists (going on bypass, cardioplegia administration and coming off bypass) were considered. Additi… Show more

“…Uma revisão sistemática evidenciou que treinamento baseado em simulação pode ser utilizado para melhorar medidas subjetivas, como a confiança dos participantes e o aprimoramento de habilidades de curto prazo 24 . Portanto, a utilização de simuladores para treinamento (avançado) é aceita e explicitamente solicitada pelos perfusionistas 25 .…”

“…There has been a reduction in size and a qualitative selection of materials and electronic systems, leading to the development of systems for the safe management and monitoring of vital parameters. 1,2 The tremendous and rapid technological advances that humans have achieved in the last decade have definitely impacted how surgical tasks are performed in the operating room (OR). As a high-tech work environment, the contemporary OR has incorporated novel computational systems into the clinical workflow, aiming to optimize processes, and support the surgical team.…”
