Comparison of average global exposure of population induced by a macro 3G network in different geographical areas in France and Serbia

Abstract: This article is the first thorough study of average population exposure to third generation network (3G)-induced electromagnetic fields (EMFs), from both uplink and downlink radio emissions in different countries, geographical areas, and for different wireless device usages. Indeed, previous publications in the framework of exposure to EMFs generally focused on individual exposure coming from either personal devices or base stations. Results, derived from device usage statistics collected in France and Serbia,… Show more

“…In this configuration, results show that the uplink component of exposure is as expected dominating EI and the exposure of indoor users is higher than outdoor users due to the contribution of uplink exposure. In addition the computed EI value for the presented scenario is 3.62 × 10 −8 W/kg at 1800 MHz and 3.03 × 10 −8 W/kg at 2600 MHz which is less than values reported in UMTS and LTE macro cell scenarios in other studies [8] [4]. This can be explained by the reduced distance between SC and UEs and therefore the reduced uplink emitted powers.…”

“…smartphones or tablets) and cellular base stations (BS) or access points [2]. In this respect, advanced computational propagation tools were used in many studies [2,3,4] to characterize the signal's attenuation between a transmitter and a receiver. Such tools can provide accurate path loss results, however they are strongly dependent on detailed building and terrain data, which increases the computational burden.…”
