Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) act as an essential input to hydraulic models for the simulation of flood hazard maps. Coarser resolution DEMs are subject to higher levels of uncertainty, particularly in capturing river-bed bathymetry.The principal aim of the present study was to assess the potential use of freely available DEMs and the 1D and 2D HEC-RAS modeling approaches for flood mapping in four different types of river morphology. The DEM created from direct river survey (Surveyed DEM) was used as a benchmark to assess three remote sensing-based DEMs (i.e., ALOS, SRTM, and ASTER). The results indicated that ALOS is more accurate. However, the regeneration of main-channel bathymetry was poor for floodplain-meandering and braided river reaches.The DEMs were then corrected by optimizing the number and layout of representative sections. A total of 144 tests were carried out. The results indicated that the flood-mapping index F of ALOS increased from 86% to 91%. The flood mapping with a 1D model was sufficient in straight reaches (F-index 84%). In floodplain-meandering rivers, a 2D model had to be used to reach an F-index up to 81%. The responses of both 1D and 2D models were almost identical in the case of wide-braided rivers.

Ukai Reservoir witnessed flood incidents in 2006, 2013 and 2019, causing significant damage to property and infrastructure. The objective is to analyse the spatial-temporal change in inundation of Reservoir & soil loss. Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI), Modified Normalized Difference Water Index (MNDWI), Universal Soil Loss Equation, and Land Use Land Cover (LULC) were applied. Landsat-8 data was collected from 2013 to 2020 for pre & post-monsoon periods. Decreasing water inundation area trend from 2015 to 2016 observed, possibly due to excess irrigation, power generation. 2016 faced increased water spread area, could be because of heavy precipitation in the upstream catchment. A high Rainfall erosivity factor (96.27 to 1427.58) indicates intense rainfall, which denotes a more remarkable ability of an area to detach and transport soil particles. High Soil Erodibility Factor (0.05 to 0.34), depict higher erodibility. The Topographic Factor (0 to 146.01), means more erosion occurs in steeper areas. The highest predicted annual soil loss was in the moderately high erosion category. Low Crop Management factor (0 to 1) denotes loss. Overall soil loss in this area is increasing, and need soil conservation. The Average Annual soil loss factor (26.64 to 44.05) depicts increase in soil loss. LULC analysis shows agriculture (69.77% in 2018) and barren land (24.38% in 2020) are the two predominant classes. The variation in the area was directed by rainfall in the post-monsoon time, excess irrigation, and electricity generation during the pre-monsoon time.

The socio-economic development of the Tashkent region (Uzbekistan) depends largely on natural resources, especially water resources, as in other regions. One of the canals that supply water to the Tashkent province is the Tashkent magistral canal (TMC). In terms of size, the second of the canals receives water from the left bank of the Chirchik River. The TMC has been 82 years since its start of use. Hydrotechnical facilities on the TMC are typical of the II class. There are many hydrotechnical facilities on the canal: one main structure, four water dampening facilities, two destructive water discharges, four duckers in the canal, 45 water dischargers, one waterfall, seven under-canal duckers, two pipes under the canal, nine aqueducts, nine canal access, thirteen road bridges, one railway bridge, one pedestrian bridge. This article presents the technical condition of the TMC and its hydrotechnical facilities and recommendations developed based on the technical condition. On April 9-13, 2022, field observation work was carried out to study the technical condition of the TMC and hydrotechnical facilities. It reviewed the availability of technical documents of TMC facilities, instructions for their use, information on maintenance of mechanical equipment, working drawings, previous inspection reports, and other materials. In addition, the conclusions of the inspection carried out by the State Inspection "Davsuvkhujalikzorat" and the results of the technical inspections carried out by the employees of the TMC administration and project parameters of water facilities were studied.
